Whether you are using a simple screwdriver or a high-powered drill, the tools we use daily carry inherent risks if handled incorrectly. Common injuries like deep cuts, electrical shocks, and entanglement are often the result of small oversights or using the wrong equipment for a task.

The lesson Tool Safety is designed to provide you with a practical framework for identifying hazards before they lead to an accident. By taking this course, you will learn the essential habits of "pre-use" inspections, the critical importance of specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and the professional responsibility of reporting equipment defects to keep yourself and your colleagues out of harm's way.

This lesson teaches:

  • Inspect before use — every tool, every time. A 30-second inspection can prevent serious injury.
  • Use the right tool for the job — improvising with the wrong tool puts you and others at risk.
  • Wear your PPE — safety glasses, hearing protection, proper footwear are required because they save lives.
  • Follow manufacturer instructions — the manual exists for a reason. Read it, understand it, follow it.
  • Report problems immediately — damaged tools, unsafe conditions, near-misses. Speak up every time.
