Minimum Time Requirement

The minimum time requirement is an optional setting that lets you control the amount of time learners are required to spend in Courses. This helps learners engage with their assignments, and meet regulatory requirements or internal training quotas. Think of it as minimum engagement time rather than a stopwatch that learners try to beat.

In most cases, learners engage with and complete their assignments without the need for enforcing a minimum time requirement.

If a learner moves through the course with a minimum time requirement too quickly, an alert appears when they reach the end of the course, displaying the remaining number of minutes that they are required to spend to receive credit for completing the course. If a learner stops progressing in the course for five or more minutes, the system automatically pauses and displays a message letting them know the course is on hold until they're ready to continue.

Preset Time Requirements

Some compliance-related courses, such as anti-harassment training, have preset minimum time requirements that you cannot change. These settings are based on state and local laws requiring learners to spend specific amounts of time in certain types of training.

Setting a Minimum Time Requirement

For courses that don’t have a preset time, you can set your own minimum time requirement based on your organization's needs and the complexity of the content. To set a minimum time requirement for a course:

  1. Navigate to the Content Library and locate the content you wish to rename.
  2. Select the title for that content, which opens the Content Details Page
  3. If the content has multiple versions, use the version dropdown to choose the version that you wish to set a minimum time requirement.
  4. Select Optional Configurations.
  5. Locate the Minimum Time Requirement section. If the Enable time requirements? setting is No, the course does not have a minimum time requirement.

  6. Select Yes for Enable time requirements? and enter the minimum number of minutes that you want learners to spend in the course.

  7. Select Save Changes to keep your changes.

Changes you make to the Minimum Time Requirement will be reflected in the Version Information section of the Content Details page within 8 hours.

Updating a Minimum Time Requirement

You can update a minimum time requirement if needed, even after a course is deployed. For example, you might notice that learners consistently spend more than the minimum time, and want to change or remove it.

To remove the minimum time requirement for a course, follow Steps 1-5 above but select No for Enable time requirements?, then select Save Changes.

To increase or decrease the number of minutes for a minimum time requirement, follow Steps 1-6 above and update the value in the minutes field.

If you make changes to the Minimum Time Requirement after a course has already been assigned to learners, the changes will only apply to those learners who receive their assignment after the change.

Learners who had already received the assignment will continue with the original Minimum Time Requirement. If you want all learners in the campaign to receive the new Minimum Time Requirement, you must withdraw the campaign and re-launch it to learners.

LMS-Connected Accounts

If you have an LMS-connected account, you cannot set a minimum time requirement in the Content Library. You'll see a message telling you to contact your Client Success Manager (CSM) if you'd like to set a minimum time requirement.
