Understanding Account Types

Emtrain customers have one of two account types, an Emtrain-hosted account or an LMS-connected account. 

Emtrain-Hosted Accounts 

With an Emtrain-hosted account, you assign training via the Emtrain platform—we call this Emtrain-assigned training. Your users complete their training assignments through the Emtrain platform. 

LMS-Connected Accounts

With an LMS-connected Account, you assign training through your Learning Management System (LMS). We call this “LMS-Assigned Training.” You do this by downloading SCORM or xAPI training files from Emtrain, then uploading them to your LMS. Additionally, your employee roster is maintained in your LMS. 

Workday CCL accounts are a unique type of LMS-connected account where selected Emtrain content is synced to the Workday LMS automatically, without requiring training file uploads. You can learn more about that account type in our Workday CCL Integration Guide

What’s My Account Type?

You can find your account type on the Basic Info screen in Site Config:

The Account Type displays one of the following options:

  • Emtrain-Hosted
  • LMS-Connected (SCORM)
  • LMS-Connected (xAPI) 
  • Workday CCL

Login Log in to Emtrain with an email or employee ID and password, or via SSO. Log in via your LMS. Log in via SSO from Workday.

User Roster Maintain your user roster in Emtrain—either manually, by HRIS integration or by SFTP. Roster updates in Emtrain can be used to create and/or update existing users. Maintain your user roster in your LMS. Roster updates in Emtrain can only be used to update existing users for the purpose of adding segmentation data. Maintain your user roster in Emtrain in addition to the Workday LMS — ideally by HRIS integration or SFTP (manual maintenance is risky). Roster updates in Emtrain can be used to create and/or update existing users.
Assignments Created via Campaigns within Emtrain. Created via your LMS. Created in the Workday LMS. 
Notifications Delivered via Campaigns within Emtrain. Delivered via your LMS. Delivered from via the Workday LMS.
Reporting Download Progress & Completion Reports via Emtrain. Download Progress & Completion reports via your LMS. Download Progress & Completion reports via your LMS.
Content Contained completely on the Emtrain app. Download SCORM or xAPI files from Emtrain to upload to your LMS. Files connect (in background) to Emtrain. Sync select Emtrain content to the Workday LMS, then that content lives inside the Workday LMS.
